A Day in the Life of a Community Associate

Runway East

8th January 2025

We asked our incredible Community Associate Georgie about her day to day at our bustling Bristol Bridge site, from photoshoots with pups to helping visitors find their way around the site.

A Day in the Life of a Community Associate at Runway East, Bristol

8:00 AM: Ready, Set, Go!
It’s Monday morning, a coffee has been poured, and my day begins! First I make sure the kitchen stations are stocked, the members have what they need, and inevitably catch up with the early birds about their weekend antics. As I zip through the kitchens and meeting rooms, I ensure everything is spotless and welcoming.

Monday is also breakfast day— granola, fruit, and yogurt spread for all to enjoy. It’s a simple gesture that lifts everyone’s mood (and makes me very popular).

If you’re not a morning person, like me, being active straight away is a great way to wake you up!

9:00 AM: Planning Mode
Once the morning rush settles, I dive into planning. I review my calendar, tackle emails, and ensure members feel supported. Whether it’s brainstorming ideas for site improvements or organising member events. For example, this week's focus is promoting our festive party (woop, woop!)

This is also time for me to be stationed at reception to greet members with a friendly face and assist any visitors.

10:00 AM: Team Huddle
Time for a catch-up with the Bristol team to discuss the week ahead, address any issues, and share ideas. From Tuesday to Thursday, we also connect with the Birmingham crew, strengthening our regional collaboration. These meetings are great for sharing wins, troubleshooting, and swapping ideas.

The team spirit at Runway East is one of the best parts of the job!

11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Deep Dive into Admin
After a quick site check and handling member queries, I focus on admin and creative tasks. Today, I designed personalised invitations for our festive party—this is a highlight for me as I love getting creative. Next, I’ll deliver the invitations with some sweet treats and a Santa hat for extra cheer!

Georgie delviering personalised invites!

During this time, other tasks will pop up such as responding to emails, refreshing the kitchens, or welcoming visitors at reception. As much as you can plan your day, the role is largely reactive.

1:00-2:00 PM: Lunch Break & Refresh
Post-lunch, I sweep through the kitchen to tidy up and restock, this is a key factor in creating a welcoming and comfortable space for our thriving community.

It’s pretty satisfying restoring order after the lunchtime rush!

2:30 PM: Afternoon Tasks
Afternoons vary but are always productive. Today, I continued my key task to promote our soiree with a (consented) photoshoot of one of our favourite members - Jupiter the dog. This was great fun for us both as I love Jupiter, and Jupiter loves the treats I give him for being such a good model.

Jupiter the Model!

*dun dun dunnn* 6 huge parcels have arrived at the reception that don’t fit in our post room, a member needs help with AV for an important meeting, and I have someone at reception with a pass that isn’t working!

Once I wizz around solving these problems, the festive fun resumes. I send out comms about our upcoming event on the member's Slack channel.

Slack is our go-to for member communications, so I shared the updates with some adorable clickbait:

4:00 - 5:00 PM: Wrapping Up
As the day winds down, I prepare for tomorrow by noting any outstanding tasks, cleaning the coffee machine, and ensuring the site is spotless.

By now, I’m usually wondering, “How is it 4 PM already?”
